Episode 184: The 3 Cs of Your Agency Success

Your Culture and Correct Communication are the fundamentals that are needed in order to have a successful agency.  Joel joins me to talk about these 3 Cs and uncover the nine modules that UPP has developed to help you bring these fundamentals to the forefront of your agency.

Highlights:

  • Core values are the heartbeat of your business. They define who you are, what you stand for, and what you won’t stand for.
  • You have to use caution that you are not over communicating causing message burnout.
  • Culture is the key to building a customer focused culture.
  • What are you doing it as an agency owner, to share the value of independent learning with your team?
  • Design your interview questions in the manner that can get the right people into your culture.
  • Motivation is external but you should be doing it in a way that increases their own internal drive.
  • You set the bar for what’s acceptable and what’s not acceptable. Your team is always watching how you hold yourself and others accountable.
  • We highlight some books that the avid learner and leader should check out to build your agency culture.

Episode 174: Rowing in the Same Direction

“Over communicating to your team is crucial. It doesn’t matter if you have one person or 100 people in your team.” – Marc Sparks

You have your goals set, your vision established, and your scorecard prepared but does your team know it, and even more are they onboard with it?  In this episode, I am going to talk about the importance of communication within your team to ensure that everybody is aware of your goals and are pushing the vision of your agency forward.  I am also going to share some wisdom from the book They Can’t Eat You by Marc Sparks.

Highlights:

  • Create a “rowing in the same direction” communication method with your team
  • Plan to over-communicate the information you want to be shared. People need to hear things at least seven times, or more.
  • You should be observing and learning from everything going on around you all of the time, every day, in every way.
  • I share a moment at a hotel that demonstrated how “Rowing in the Same Direction” manifested in the most spontaneous way.

Episode 118: Monthly Newsletter (Encore)

If someone asked YOUR client about YOUR agency in a grocery store, how would that conversation go? Would there be much of a conversation? Is there any type of ongoing dialogue with YOUR client except when you want/need more money from them?

What is your very best method of consistent communication with your clients, friend, prospects, and emergency contacts? In our Living Agency Laboratory, it’s HANDS-DOWN our agency newsletter. It is the most talked about, generates the most referrals and gains us tremendous credibility in the eyes of all who read and talk about our agency.

I received a call recently from a client who shared a story where they were at a charitable fundraiser, talking with someone about insurance. The other party mentioned that they were insured with Stromsoe Insurance Agency, that one of the things they LOVED about the relationship with the agency is the newsletter. The “other party” actually said “it almost seems like Stromsoe Insurance Agency is too good to be true, they are over the top”.

Highlights:

  • The formula for the content of an effective newsletter
  • Use themes to help format your monthly content
  • The benefits of a monthly newsletter on retention and relationship building
  • Developing that top-of-mind awareness in consumers
  • Frequency of newsletters and alternatives such as postcards and blogs
  • Looking at the various means of distribution
  • Building loyalty within your current customers

Episode 104: Slam the Back Door Shut

In today’s episode, I want to talk about slamming your back door shut. What does that mean?  While you are focused on getting new clients and obtaining new ventures, you may have clients slowly and quietly slipping out the back door. Now is the time to make sure this is not happening to you.

Highlights:

  • The importance of focusing on retention and reviewing your numbers
  • Finding the right coach for the right focus to ensure you are doing everything for your business
  • Having diversity in your team leaders skills is a definite asset to a winning team
  • Always staying on top of your scorecard with regular defined meetings
  • Increase your retention with the number of policies you can offer a client
  • Your scorecard for your agency should be based on the culture, the characteristics, the traits, and the makeup of your own agency business
  • Creating moments of check-ins with your clients that are not based on the renewal period of the policies
  • Strategies for handling those clients that have lapsed in payment that may increase retention
