Episode 171: How to Have ONLY Great Clients

In this week’s episode, I’m going to bring you some updated ways of thinking about strategies and everything else concerning a very simple principle, the 80/20 rule.  Based on the Pareto principle, these tactics can help you scale your business while focusing on your ideal client using something we like to call Client Segmentation.

  • 20% of the customers create 80% of the revenue, so focus on satisfying those customers.
  • Alternatively, the bottom 20% of clients consume possibly as much as 80% of your time.
  • Client Segmentation – Utilizing your data determine who your Triple-A to C clients are so that you know where to focus your time and energy.
  • Understand what makes for an excellent client, an average client, and a client that will end up costing the agency more than they produce income-wise for the agency.
  • “Fire” your C clients, those that are wasting your time and costing you money.
  • A personal insurance Triple A client will have three or more policies, one or fewer claims in the last three years, no late pays, and refers people to your agency
  • Keep building deep, significant, meaningful relationships, all of the time, with everybody on your Triple A list but don’t spend time on your C clients unless you believe they are coachable.

About My Guest:

Lee’s passion for why he does what he does comes from experiencing the gut-wrenching need for Living Benefits firsthand while growing up. His mother was diagnosed with intestinal cancer when he was a senior in high school, and the financial impact on the family was devastating. Even though she was covered with health insurance, Lee’s family was quickly forced to exhaust their modest savings, losing their home to foreclosure within a year.\

Thankfully, his mother made a full recovery, and Lee resolved to do everything within his power to stop cancer from causing the pain to other families that it had caused him. To this day, that experience continues to stoke Lee’s passion for sharing Living Benefits with as many individuals and families as possible.

Lee graduated from the University of Georgia in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and business. In September of that year, he met Jerry Stratton, who offered him an entry-level administrative position at Living Benefits Solutions, a small agency operating within Alliance Group.

If someone asked YOUR client about YOUR agency in a grocery store, how would that conversation go? Would there be much of a conversation? Is there any type of ongoing dialogue with YOUR client except when you want/need more money from them?
