Episode 206: WHY You Do It

“If you don’t know why you do what you do, how can other people, including your team,  possibly decide to follow you or join your team?”

This week we are exploring the process of discovering and refining your core values, which are essential and timeless guiding principles that define your culture and attract people to your organization. By understanding and embracing why we do what we do, we can better serve our clients, inspire our teams, and ultimately, make a positive impact on people’s lives.

Highlights:

  • Look at what everybody else is doing and do the opposite.
  • People don’t buy what you do. They buy, why you do it.
  • Your Core Values are a small set of essential and timeless guiding principles and define your work culture.
  • Discover some quick steps to create or refine your core values
  • Communicate the core values to the rest of the organization. This will involve planning, practicing, and a clarity of message.
  • I share a strategy I recently implemented on how to have people on the team reflect on UPPs core values.

Victoria Cabot, President and Founder of Velocity6 Leadership, believes in the power of bringing teams together in order to build great organizations.  Mike and Victoria delve into her career as an Entrepreneurial Operating System Implementer and how EOS can help achieve congruency between vision, traction, and healthy in teams and the organization overall.

  • Creating an accountability chart to get clear on the functions, of who is responsible for who
  • There is a free spirit, can-do attitude, that can be found in business leaders that Victoria works with
  • Traction issues boil down to a few things; not feeling in control of their business, lack of profit, and finding the right people.
  • Having an effective running organization allows the entrepreneur to get out of the business and really work on the business
  • Operating under a system like this is adding value to your company as it has become self-managed
  • EOS is like the algorithm of every business book but with templates
